Date:                                            Friday, September 14th
Day:                                              1
Flash N°:                                    3
Special stage:                          Ula 1
Distance:                                   21.90 km
Weather:                                   Warm and sunny
Road conditions:                  Dry and dusty

Car 1.  OGIER/INGRASSIA

“It was okay because there was no dust in this one. I cannot be happy. We were too

slow.”

Car 2.  EVANS/BARRITT

“It was going well. We have an issue. I don’t know. We need to look at it…” Fluid leaking

from the car at the stage finish. The Welshman is working on his car after the stage finish.

UPDATE – M-SPORT FORD’S MALCOLM WILSON

“It looks as though it is a rear differential problem. It’s probably taken an impact and

smashed the casing. We are going to have to retire the car for the day.”

Car 3.  SUNINEN/MARKKULA

“It’s really tough and a lot of rough places. The beginning was a bit better than the last

one.”

Car 4.  MIKKELSEN/JAEGER-SYNNEVAAG

“I tried to save the tyres a bit for the next stage. It’s getting really rough. The second pass

will be carnage. We are also putting in the notes where it will be rough for the second

pass.”

Car 5.  NEUVILLE/GILSOUL – fastest time

“It’s horrible conditions to be first honest. There are no lines and you are spinning the

wheels. There was 2.5km difference on the trip on the last one because of wheel spin.

More dry in this one. I try to do a good stage. The car felt quite okay, but a huge amount

of cleaning.”

Car 6.  PADDON/MARSHALL

“Really rough and not really sweeping. The rough parts are becoming loose. It wasn’t the

best stage.”

Car 7.  LATVALA/ANTTILA

“I thought to back off. I didn’t drive well to the end. I was too cautious. It was not as rough

as I expected. That is where I lost the time.”

Car 8.   TÄNÄK/JARVEOJA

“It seems a lot (time). When it gets rough I cannot get grip and I am really struggling.”

Car 9.   LAPPI/FERM

“It gets really rough in the end. I wanted to be safe and come to the finish. It is so hard to

know what speed when you cannot break the car. I was too slow.”

Car 10.   ØSTBERG/ERIKSEN

“It’s getting rough. The start is quite nice and the end is not so easy. It’s quite close which

surprised me in a stage like that.”

Car 11.  BREEN/MARTIN

“It was worse (rough). I probably backed off too much in places. It’s difficult to know what

speed to go at. It’s a long way to go and we are still here, so…”

Car 36.   KAJETANOWICZ/SZCZEPANIAK

Lost power steering early in SS2.

Car 38.   BOSTANCI/VATANSEVER

Stopped in SS2.
